Juanita Owens

Therapist | Trauma-Informed Care Specialist

My name is Juanita Owens, and I’m a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) with over eight years of experience supporting people through life’s challenges. I have a particular passion for working with women of color, adolescents, adults, and couples as they navigate trauma, relationships, emotional stress, life transitions, and the experiences that have shaped how they see themselves and connect with others.

I became a therapist because I believe people deserve a space where they can slow down, feel heard, and explore what is happening beneath the surface. Sometimes the patterns we struggle with today began as ways of coping, protecting ourselves, maintaining relationships, or getting through difficult experiences. Understanding where those patterns came from can help us approach ourselves with greater compassion while deciding what we want to carry forward.

My work is grounded in the belief that healing is not about becoming a completely different person. It is about developing greater awareness of yourself, your experiences, your relationships, and the patterns that may be influencing your life today. From that awareness, we can begin creating healthier and more intentional ways of responding to ourselves and the people around us.

Whether I am working with an individual or a couple, I want therapy to feel collaborative, supportive, and human. You do not have to arrive with everything figured out. We can begin exactly where you are.

Juanita’s Therapy Style

I believe therapy is a collaborative process where you are the expert on your own life. My role is to provide a compassionate, nonjudgmental space where we can explore your thoughts, emotions, relationships, and patterns with curiosity rather than judgment.

My approach is integrative and draws from mindfulness, solution-focused techniques, cognitive-behavioral strategies, person-centered care, and trauma-informed approaches. Rather than focusing only on what is happening in the present, we may also explore how past experiences, relationships, and learned ways of coping continue to influence how you think, feel, connect, and respond today.

I believe some of the behaviors and emotional responses we struggle with can make more sense when we understand what they have been trying to accomplish for us. Therapy allows us to become curious about those patterns, build greater self-awareness, and begin developing ways of responding that better support who you are and the life you want to create.

When working with couples, I help partners slow down the patterns happening between them and become curious about what may be underneath the conflict. What looks like anger, withdrawal, defensiveness, or difficulty communicating may also be connected to deeper emotions, unmet needs, past experiences, or ways each person has learned to protect themselves and maintain connection. Together, we can work toward greater awareness, healthier communication, emotional safety, and more intentional ways of relating to one another.

The Bigger Vision

To me, healing requires both self-compassion and intentional action. Insight can help us understand where our patterns came from, but awareness also gives us the opportunity to decide what we want to do differently moving forward.

My goal is not simply to help you feel better in the moment. I want therapy to be a space where you can better understand yourself, recognize your strengths, explore the experiences that shaped you, and create changes that can continue beyond the therapy room.

Whether I am working with an individual or a couple, I want difficult patterns to be explored safely and without shame. We can make room for what has happened while also building toward healthier relationships, stronger boundaries, deeper self-trust, and more intentional ways of moving through life.

You do not have to have everything figured out before beginning. Sometimes healing starts by becoming curious about yourself and allowing yourself to imagine that something different is possible.
